A Bouquet of Gardens

2026 Update!

It’s a new year, a new spring time, and lots of new news to share!

We have a new logo and a new sign on M-43. I’ve been wishing for a new look and in collaboration with Amy Yockey, owner of Amy’s Signs and Designs in Holstein, we created a winner that combines the Garden, Greenhouses and Celebrations into one awesome image. You’ll also see on the sign, that our business now operates from April – September. We’ll still be around in October putting the garden to bed for the winter, but we won’t be keeping regular hours. We will be open by chance or by appointment in October. If you are driving far, please call ahead so we don’t miss you!

If you visited the garden last spring in April or May, you probably saw our son, Tyler, working on the “new” Folly. Originally a wooden granary – Green Gables Granaries in Onawa, IA - this building has always been one of our favorite hangouts situated at the north edge of the garden area. Through the years, the side walls and flooring deteriorated and it was in desperate need of repair. Since nothing is permanent at the Prairie Pedlar, I also decided a move to a more useable area on the property was also in order. (We have moved a lot of buildings!) A new location was established and a new cement pad was poured. Evaluating the condition of the building, Tyler decided it would be beneficial to erect new walls, dismantle the wainscoated roof and recycle it. This spring we plan to add some new landscaping and look forward to sharing the Folly with visitors. It’s a spacious area for small meeting groups, a Bible study, or a picnic lunch! We imagine that brides and bridesmaids might linger there prior to a wedding ceremony and friends can meet there for coffee and conversation. The Folly is the best of both worlds – something old and something new!

CAUTION:
Our enthusiasm for the spring season might be contagious! If you are feeling an itch to play in the dirt or have developed a spring fever that will not subside, you have all the symptoms. A trip to the Prairie Pedlar is a perfect cure!
